Al sinds zeven dagen ligt het Playstation Network helemaal plat. Volgens Sony is er een groep hackers genaamd Anonymous actief die momenteel zijn pijlen naar de Playstation 3 laat wijzen. Men heeft bij de console ingebroken en heeft zoveel ravage gesticht in het netwerk, dat Sony alles offline heeft moeten halen. Ontzettend vervelend voor PSN gebruikers, aangezien de online chaos voor op het moment even niet gesticht kan worden. Slechte timing ook, aangezien ontzettend veel mensen vrij zijn geweest met de Paasdagen en het netwerk in principe drukker is dan ooit. Touché voor Anonymous zou je zeggen. Iets zegt me echter dat ze het nog moeilijk gaan krijgen.
Mensen zijn massaal op internet gaan klagen over de slechte service die Sony op dit moment biedt. Maar de hackers zijn nog wel het meest ongewild in het verhaal. Ironisch eigenlijk hoe raar het balletje kan rollen. Het is namelijk niet de eerste keer dat hackers in de aanval gingen tegen Sony. Onlangs kreeg de hacker Geohotz veel media aandacht door in zijn eentje te vechten tegen het ‘bewind’ die het bedrijf voert. Er ontstond toen een tweestrijd bij de PSN bezitters. De ene kant vond dat Geohotz gelijk had, omdat Sony toch een aantal features heeft verwijderd (zoals Linux en backwards compatibility). De andere helft is het met Sony eens, dat consumenten zich aan de regels van het bedrijf moeten houden. ”Ons huis, onze regels”, luidt dan ook het devies bij Sony en om eerlijk te zijn bij vele andere bedrijven. Sony is in ieder geval keihard in de tegenaanval gegaan en heeft het vuur geopend op Geohotz. David tegen Goliath zou je kunnen zeggen.
Omdat deze perikelen zich afspeelden, begonnen hackers zich aan te sluiten bij Hotz. Een massale aanval op het Playstation Network was het gevolg an deze woede uitbarstingen. De schade moet ongetwijfeld enorm zijn geweest, aangezien het netwerk er nu al zeven dagen uit ligt. Vandaag zijn de geruchten naar buiten gekomen dat de hackers mogelijk de creditcardgegevens van PSN gebruikers in handen hebben gekregen. Als dit waar is, dan hebben we te maken van een ramp op groot niveau in de gamewereld. In principe kunnen ze grote bedragen afschrijven naar eigen wens, mits ze natuurlijk meer kwaad dan dit in de zin hebben. Hebben ze het hier allemaal om gedaan? De creditcardgegevens? Het lijkt mij in principe vrij sterk, aangezien hackers over het algemeen geen criminelen zijn. Hoogstens witteboordencriminaliteit en daar hoort dit echt niet bij.Toch baart het mij een beetje zorgen, aangezien Sony heeft gemeld het hele netwerk opnieuw te installeren. Dit zou nog vele dagen kunnen duren, mochten de hackers tegengas geven.
Ironisch eigenlijk, hoe dergelijke media zo zijn geïntegreerd bij mensen dat ze moord en brand schreeuwen als er een tijdelijke stop op komt te zitten. Want als je het even simpel bekijkt, hoe erg is het dat we een week lang niet online kunnen gamen? We zouden toch ook een boek kunnen lezen, een film kijken of gewoon uit kunnen gaan met anderen? Het weer is simpelweg perfect en het ziet er naar uit de we de beste lente in jaren krijgen (en misschien zelfs een uitstekende zomer). En toch, als je zit te wachten op iets dan gaat de tijd maar tergend langzaam voorbij.
Microsoft heeft heel slim gereageerd op de situatie bij Sony en heeft het afgelopen weekend een paar dagen gratis Xbox Live Gold uitgedeeld. Ongetwijfeld om de PSN bezitters over te halen om over te stappen naar de Xbox 360. Een goede timing als je het mij vraagt, maar het neemt niet weg dat het een vuil spelletje is. Zie het als een slang die rustig afwacht tot zijn prooi een fout maakt en op dat moment keihard toeslaat.
Vooralsnog kunnen we alleen maar gissen wanneer we weer virtueel kont kunnen gaan schoppen op het Playstation Network. Hoe groot is de schade? Krijgen we problemen met creditcardgegevens? En zou het niet goed zijn om de fans van de Playstation 3 tegemoet te komen met een compensatie? Een maand gratis PSN plus? Of een game? Minimale kosten voor Sony, aangezien het allemaal middels digitaal verkeer geregeld wordt. Ik ben in ieder geval erg benieuwd. Iets zegt me echter dat dit nog een staartje gaat krijgen.

Klopt, maar Sony sluit het niet uit dat er creditcardgegevens zijn blootgesteld. Het is nog niet bevestigd en daarom is het vooralsnog een gerucht;)

Sony heeft z’n zaken niet op orde. Altijd jammer als de consument daar de dupe van wordt. Ik betwijfel of er enige vorm van compensatie komt, aangezien het gebruik van PSN gratis is. Misschien krijgen alleen de betaalklanten met PSN+ een compensatie. Maar dat blijft vooralsnog even koffiedik kijken.
Het was een moeilijke dag voor me inderdaad. Je begint dergelijke zaken pas te waarderen als deze je tijdelijk worden ontnomen.
Playstation Plus bezitters kunnen maar beter een goede compensatie krijgen, anders verliest Sony een heleboel klanten.

Worst of all, though Sony doesn’t have any reason to believe that credit card info has been compromised, it can’t guarantee that it wasn’t.

Ik hoop ook inderdaad dat sony iets doet als PSN het weer gaat doen, hetzij een maand gratis PSNplus voor iedereen of een game naar keuze.
Ik maak me me niet zoveel zorgen, sony zorgt er wel voor dat alles z.s.m alles weer gaat werken.
Ik zal dus zeker geen Xdoos 360 kopen alleen al om al die 9 jarige jochies die zitten te schreeuwen in elke game die je online speel.
True. Maar dit zou slechts het begin van vele aanvallen kunnen zijn, als Sony hier niet serieus mee om zal gaan.
